Many of the shelters had fire pits. Usually in a metal ring with a moveable plate. In the beginning I cooked on these until I had packed extra gas. Getting a fire going worked well despite the wetness of the place. Sometimes I dried my socks but in the next morning this luxury would soon disappear. Sharp branches cut my boots open and these lost its waterproofness fairly quickly
