“The manure and snow competed for space in the streets of Upper Pisang, Manang and Kagbeni. The ancient road which I took to my lodge in Manang was a concoction of snow, ice, manure, urine, and a foot-wide open gutter. I was using a walking stick, hoping to avoid sliding into the gutter but I inevitably stepped into it. And I did not care about that either.”

‘Black tea, No Sugar’

Is the story of two treks on the famous Annapurna Circuit and into the Annapurna Sanctuary in Central Nepal in 1989.

The combined treks took about 30 days and reached an altitude at the Thorung La pass of 5416 meters, and later into the basecamp inside the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4095 meters.

All words, and sketches were written, and drawn by Geert during the trekking, or in the lodges, tea houses, or in the hustle and bustle of Pokhara and Katmandu. The sketches are all in black and white, either with a fineliner, pen & ink, or with the brush
