"And the sun sank again on the grand Australian bush - the nurse and tutor of eccentric minds, the home of the weird, and of much that is different from things in other lands."

— Henry Lawson

Nearly there

A dead cow, plundered, stripped bare, and emptied by passing dingo’s, wedgetailed eagles, and other scavengers of the Outback. The waterhole could have been empty when this cow came near. On Geert’s first hike, all waterholes were filled with water. The second time, [one year later] most of these were empty. It’s an example of the brutality that climate and wilderness can have.

“A lot of the hiking on the Larapinta Trail went over rocks and stone and these boots got a serious hammering, and were in such bad shape that I had to replace them. I had to take a ride out of Standley Chasm, and back to Alice Springs were I bought new hikers and returned to commence with the journey”
